The Club House

The club is a not-for-profit company registered as a friendly society.  It was founded in 1878 and is still going strong today, but we are always open to new male and female members.

We have:

The club house is open throughout the year and the bar is open between 7.30 and 11.00pm Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Club Location

The club is situated in Wolstanton, immediately next to Porthill Park Cricket Club.  To access the club by car you must turn into Knutton road from Silverdale road.  Railings on Knutton road prevent access from the east. On the map, the club and its green can be seen directly below Knutton Road.

Car Parking

Wolstanton Bowling & Snooker Club shares a large car park with Porthill Park Cricket Club.  There is usually lots of space, unless there is a major cricket match taking place.

View from the Gate

The club presents a very attractive environment, with beautiful grounds and flowering borders.  The main lounge looks out over the green, and the setting feels more like that of a rural village than a suburb of a town.

The lounge and bar are excellent places to relax.

The club house has been massively improved in recent years with the help of grants from the National Lottery, Staffordshire County Council, Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and Sports Council, and Sport England. We now have disabled access and toilets, a renovated central heating system, full double glazing. The roof has been completely repaired and insulated, and there have been big improvements to the Kitchen, and equipment shed. The green is well maintained and has a sprinkler system, ensuring it continues to do well when we have periods of dry weather.

More recent grants from the Landfill Communities Trust and Red Industries are posted on our News Page

The Bar

The bar is managed by volunteers from the membership who ensure that it is open from 7.30pm to around 11.00pm Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  A variety of beers, spirits and soft drinks are available.

During the bowling season it is also possible to take drinks outside within the confines of the club grounds.

There are plenty of garden chairs surrounding the green, and the high hedges and walls ensure that it is usually possible to find a place out of the wind!

Catering Facilities

We also have a large kitchen area enabling us to provide basic catering facilities for special events organised by individual members and the Club Committee, e.g.

Unfortunately, the club is not available for hire by non-members, unless there is an existing member who is prepared to supervise the premises while the event is taking place.
